jar of buttons

have you ever paid attention to all the little things you see in old vendor stores? have you ever, really stopped in you footsteps and looked. well, that is what i did oneday. Its an eye-opener and i believe everyone should do it. pretty humbling. take a day to yourself, you don't need any money, and walk into old downtown vendor shops. vendor shops are everywhere, you just have to look for them. you will be amazed at the treasures and trinkets you will find! i was!

so, the first little shop i went into i found some pretty wacky/weird things, but that's what is so exciting about it! im sure the lady at the check-out counter was staring, because some of the things i found just made me giggle, outloud! you find things like, old antique clothing from the 20's, books that smell like the 20's and look as old as methuselah, china cabinets full of tiny clowns and not to mention dust (who knows how old it may be), old antique coca cola signs, rusty vintage bicycle tires and so on..

the second shop i wondered into was even better, i found a frog soap dish. yes, it is just as it sounds, a BIG fat frog with a BIG fat mouth that eats your soap! and i thought, "not sure i want that little guy staring at me while i wash my dishes, not to mention getting my hand anywhere near him!"

scary right?

i found a jar of buttons. this one caught my attention. who would buy this tiny jar of buttons i thought!? i imagine an old lady will buy it. another one's trash, another one's treasure? maybe so. i wish i would have bought that little jar of buttons now.

i found masks made from what looked like paper mache', very tribal.. some were disturbing, yet interesting. painted with elaborate patterns and symbols. who would want to buy that you ask? im clueless.

i found a candle in the form of an old lady.

so if your wondering where im going with all of this, all of these little things must have a story behind them. they all belonged to someone, treasure dearly. it made me think of all the little things i hold on to. it made me thankful.

my mow-mows old jewelry box that was given to me when she passed, it's filled with jewelry she received after she worked so many years at a business. it contains two gold necklaces, a locket and an old black of white picture of when she was wed.

i also have my grandmothers old check book register. no, she didn't write me a letter of sentimental value, but her  handwritting is on each of those pages, i feel like i have a little piece of her still, on earth.

i have old cassette tapes of when i sang "you are my sunshine" to my great grandmother when she was in the nursing home.

i wanted to share my "little adventure" with you because it truly brought me down back to earth. we are so spoilt today in the world that we live in. instead of reading books that actually take imagination to interpret them, we watch movies. we are so caught up in our cell phones, that we forget we can actually visit someone in person by going to their home. we tell ourselves we are so bored, why not go outside and look around at what the Lord has furnished us with? skys of blue, green grass right outside your house, He is everywhere and sometimes we don't even see Him.

and im not telling anyone to lose your cell phone or lose the tube. everynow and then just come back to earth, it is something i am working on everyday. it's so easy to become of the world.
